“Half-Cooked Amendment”: Nusrat Javed on Article 6 Oversight
Speaking on Public TV, senior journalist and analyst Nusrat Javed commented on the government’s handling of the 27th Constitutional Amendment. He used a metaphor, likening the rushed process to cooking food in haste, where some portions remain undercooked.
Javed explained that while the amendment was prepared across four sections, officials later realized they had overlooked Article 6 of the Constitution. He recalled that during the era of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Clause 2 of Article 6 clearly stated that no high court or the Supreme Court could validate a military takeover.
According to Javed, this omission forced the government to introduce new corrections, underscoring the lack of thoroughness in the amendment process. His remarks highlight how constitutional drafting errors can complicate governance and invite criticism from political observers.
