Babar Ends 807-Day Wait With Match-Winning Century
Rawalpindi: Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the second ODI to clinch the series.
Chasing a target of 289 runs, Pakistan reached the score in the 49th over while losing only two wickets. The highlight of the match was Babar Azam’s brilliant innings. He scored an unbeaten 102 runs, marking his 28th career century. This was his first international century after 83 innings and 807 days, making the achievement even more significant.
Fakhar Zaman contributed 78 runs before being dismissed, while young opener Saim Ayub added 33. Mohammad Rizwan supported Babar with a steady knock of 51 not out, ensuring Pakistan’s smooth chase. For Sri Lanka, Dushmantha Chameera took both wickets.
Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 288 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Janith Liyanage top-scored with 54 runs, while Kamindu Mendis made 44 and Sadeera Samarawickrama added 42. Wanindu Hasaranga provided late resistance with 37 not out.
Pakistan’s bowling attack was led by Abrar Ahmed and Haris Rauf, who took three wickets each. Mohammad Wasim Jr. added one wicket to his tally.
The victory not only sealed the series for Pakistan but also marked a memorable return to form for Babar Azam, whose century was celebrated as a statement of class and resilience.
