- Eleven soldiers martyred during a suicide car bomb attack.
- ISPR confirms ongoing clearance operations against remnants.
As reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces and law enforcement agencies successfully repelled a cowardly terrorist attack on a joint check post in Bajaur district on February 16, 2026. The attackers, identified as members of the Indian-backed ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’ group, attempted to breach the post under the cover of darkness. However, the timely and alert response of the Pakistani personnel immediately countered the infiltration attempt, leading to a fierce gun battle in the region.
Suicide Blast and Casualties
According to the ISPR statement, the security personnel displayed exceptional professional skill and bravery as they targeted the retreating Khawarij. In total, 12 terrorists were killed during the operation. After failing in their initial assault, the attackers rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the outer wall of the check post. The resulting massive explosion caused the structure to collapse, leading to the martyrdom of 11 brave sons of the soil who stood their ground until the very end.
Civilian Impact and Cleanup Operations
The blast was so powerful that it damaged nearby residential buildings, resulting in the martyrdom of a young girl. Seven other civilians, including women and children, sustained injuries and were moved to medical facilities for treatment. ISPR confirmed that a sanitization and clearance operation is currently underway in the area to eliminate any remaining terrorists. The security forces have reiterated their commitment to the ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ vision approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.
National Tribute and Strategic Resolve
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid rich tribute to the security forces for their courageous response in thwarting the attack. He honored the sacrifice of the 11 martyred soldiers, stating that their blood would not go in vain and that the nation would never forget their service. Naqvi emphasized that by eliminating 12 terrorists, the forces proved that the state has zero tolerance for those seeking to destabilize Pakistan. The government has vowed to continue its operations with full force until the cancer of terrorism is completely eradicated from the country.
