INDIA, Police in Ghaziabad have registered a case after a woman, identified as Shanvi (also known as Shanu), alleged that her husband, Shivam Ujjwal, a physical education teacher, and his family subjected her to sustained abuse despite her parents spending over ₹76 lakh on the wedding.
According to her complaint, the dowry included a Mahindra Scorpio worth ₹24 lakh, ₹10 lakh in cash, and jewellery valued at ₹16 lakh. She claimed her in‑laws continued to demand more money, property, and household items.
Shanvi alleged that her husband insisted she work out for three hours every day so she could “look like Nora Fatehi,” withholding food for days if she refused. She also accused him of watching explicit videos online and harassing her afterward.
She said her mother‑in‑law and other female relatives mocked her appearance, telling her that her husband could have married someone “beautiful like Nora Fatehi.”
The woman further alleged that she was forced to take an abortion pill without her consent, leading to a miscarriage in July 2025. She said she was hospitalized with severe bleeding and later diagnosed with anemia.
Her complaint also claimed she was denied privacy in her marital home, with her father‑in‑law entering her room unannounced, and that her jewellery and clothes were withheld when she was later barred from returning.
The FIR, filed on August 14, 2025, lists charges including dowry harassment, physical assault, blackmail, and forced abortion. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
