Gaza Peace Plan: Hamas Delegation Arrives in Cairo for Talks
Cairo: A delegation of the Palestinian organization Hamas, led by Political Bureau member Khalil al-Hayya, arrived in Cairo on Sunday evening for indirect negotiations with Israel.
According to a statement issued by Hamas, the talks aim to determine the mechanism for implementing the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza peace plan, focusing on the release of hostages and the establishment of lasting peace in the region.
Khalil al-Hayya, who survived a recent Israeli strike in Doha, is heading the delegation. This marks his first public appearance since Hamas released a new video of him following the attack on its office in Qatar. The organization stated that the strike in Doha claimed the lives of al-Hayya’s son, Hamas’ Chief of Staff, and several members of his office.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has expressed optimism that the hostages held in Gaza will be released “very soon,” as mediators meet in Egypt on Monday to facilitate indirect peace negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
