Journalist Claims Dawn News Quoted Fake Account of Imran Khan’s Sister
- Siddique Jan identifies fake Noreen Khanum Twitter account.
- Dawn News reportedly used fake source for health updates.
- Journalist urges public to report the impersonating profile.
Journalist Siddique Jan has officially flagged a social media account on X, formerly Twitter, which is allegedly impersonating the sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The account, using the handle @noreen_khanum, has been identified as a fraudulent profile created to mislead the public and media organizations regarding the personal family matters and health updates of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder.
Media Outlets Misled
According to the journalist, the misinformation reached a critical point when mainstream media outlets, specifically Dawn News, reportedly utilized a tweet from this fake profile. The publication allegedly based a news report on a post from the impersonator, claiming that Imran Khan’s eye health was improving. Siddique Jan pointed out this lapse in editorial verification, highlighting how fake digital identities can influence mainstream narratives without proper sourcing.
Journalist Calls Action
Taking to his official X handle, Siddique Jan stated:
“This account attributed to Imran Khan’s sister is fake. Based on a tweet from this account, Dawn wrote that according to Imran Khan’s sister, his eye is getting better. This account should be reported.”
He emphasized that the public must be cautious of such accounts that gain traction by using the names of prominent political families to spread unverified claims.
