Imran Khan Vows to Die in Jail Rather Than Bow to Authorities
- Imran Khan refuses all negotiated deals for his release.
- The PTI founder faces severe vision loss in right eye.
- Aleema Khanum demands access for Khan’s personal medical team.
Imran Khan will not accept any negotiated arrangement or deal to secure his release from prison, his sister Aleema Khanum confirmed. She emphasized that the former prime minister remains firm in his stance against compromise despite escalating political tensions and health concerns. In an exclusive interview with Arab News, Khanum addressed the recurring rumors of a settlement between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and the current administration.
No Room For Compromise
Khanum noted that her brother becomes visibly upset at the suggestion of a political deal. “Quoting her brother, she said he vowed to die in jail rather than bow his head to the authorities.” This statement follows weeks of intense speculation regarding a potential exit strategy following reports of his medical condition.
Medical Concerns Mount
The interview highlighted a serious health dispute involving Khan’s right eye, where he has reportedly suffered eighty-five percent vision loss. While government doctors claim his condition is improving, Khanum disputed their findings and criticized the lack of facilities at Adiala Jail. She alleged that the government has restricted access to his personal physician, Dr. Aasim Yusuf, to manage his specialized care.
Harsh Prison Conditions
Describing the environment, Khanum revealed that the seventy-three-year-old is confined to an eight-by-ten foot cell with poor ventilation. She also mentioned that Khan’s sons, Kasim and Sulaiman, have been waiting for Pakistani visas since July 2023 without approval. Despite these challenges, she maintained that her brother continues to focus on reading and physical exercise within his limited space.
