Imran Khan’s Family Struggles Highlight Political Tensions

Islamabad The plight of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan’s sisters has sparked widespread condemnation across social and traditional media. The three sisters staged a sitin outside Adiala Jail on a cold winter night after being denied permission to meet their brother, drawing criticism of both government policies and the muted response of PTI supporters.

Senior journalist Ansar Abbasi, in his column titled “Khan’s Three Sisters” published in Daily Jang, described the scene as deeply saddening. He noted that while Khan’s sisters continue to protest despite facing cases and jail terms themselves, many PTI leaders and activists remain absent from the streets, preferring to wage battles on social media rather than taking practical steps for their leader’s release.

Abbasi argued that this lack of physical support has worsened Khan’s situation, pointing to the divisive rhetoric and antistate propaganda by some PTI figures abroad and online. He suggested that such behavior has only increased the difficulties faced by Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and their family.

Government’s Position

In recent days, government ministers floated the idea of shifting Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to Bani Gala, declaring their residence a subjail to allow closer family access. Abbasi, however, believes Khan would never make such a request himself. He urged the government and establishment to take the initiative, arguing that such a move could ease political tensions and open the door for dialogue.

Call for Dialogue

Abbasi further advised PTI’s senior leadership to establish discreet contact with the government and establishment, stressing that any negotiations must remain away from media glare to achieve meaningful results.

Social Media vs. Street Politics

The column also criticized PTI’s socalled “digital warriors” and YouTubers, accusing them of offering little real support while Khan’s sisters continue to protest in person. Abbasi warned that if matters are left to this group, neither Khan nor his family will see relief, leaving his sisters alone in their struggle outside Adiala Jail.
