Justice Tariq Jahangiri Moves Against Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar
Petition Filed in Islamabad High Court
Islamabad High Court judge Justice Tariq Jahangiri has filed a petition seeking the removal of Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar from the bench hearing the ongoing degree case. The application, submitted today, carries serious allegations of misconduct and breach of judicial code.
Allegations of Code Violation
According to the petition, Justice Jahangiri accused the Chief Justice of violating the Code of Conduct by discussing the pending degree case with him and others outside the courtroom. He claimed that Justice Dogar admitted facing “severe pressure” to hear the matter quickly and indirectly suggested that Jahangiri submit a post‑dated resignation to ease the situation.
Pressure and Resignation Suggestion
Justice Jahangiri stated that the Chief Justice advised him to resign and hand over the resignation to Dogar, arguing that such a step would reduce external pressure. Jahangiri maintained that after discussing a pending case, the Chief Justice was no longer eligible to sit on the bench.
Request for Recusal
The petition urged that Chief Justice Dogar should recuse himself from the degree case, as his actions amounted to a breach of judicial ethics. Jahangiri emphasized that instead of following the Code of Conduct, the Chief Justice attempted to pressurize a fellow judge into resignation.
Complaint to Supreme Judicial Council
Justice Jahangiri confirmed that he has formally lodged a complaint against Chief Justice Dogar with the Supreme Judicial Council, demanding accountability. He insisted that Dogar must withdraw from hearing the degree case to uphold judicial integrity.
Case Status
The degree case itself was filed today in the Islamabad High Court and remains under consideration.
According to Express News, these revelations have intensified scrutiny of the Islamabad High Court’s internal proceedings and raised questions about judicial independence under pressure.
