Karachi Building Blast Leaves Twelve Dead and Eleven Injured
- Twelve people confirmed dead in Karachi gas leak explosion.
- Eleven others injured after residential building partially collapses.
- CM Sindh orders immediate inquiry into the tragic incident.
Difficult Rescue Operation
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hasnain Habib confirmed that the explosion took place at approximately 3:45 AM. Emergency teams recovered twelve bodies, including children and adults, from the rubble and shifted them to nearby medical facilities. Narrow streets in the vicinity significantly hindered the initial movement of heavy machinery and ambulances to the site of the disaster.
Residential Area Impact
Local police reported that the incident occurred near a private school within a densely populated residential area. Initial investigations suggest that accumulated gas within a house triggered the powerful explosion, which brought down a section of the building. A heavy police contingent arrived shortly after the incident to secure the perimeter and facilitate the rescue teams in their efforts.
Official Government Response
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed the Commissioner of Karachi to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the blast. The Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and instructed health officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured victims. Authorities have been told to expedite the clearance of the debris to ensure no one else remains trapped.
