KP Government Rejects The Economist Report on Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, Vows Challenge in International Forum

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has strongly rejected a recent report published by the British magazine The Economist regarding Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, calling it baseless and politically motivated.

Information Minister Shafiullah Jan said in a statement that the article relied on unfounded stories, anonymous sources, and rumors, presenting them as facts in violation of journalistic principles. He condemned the inclusion of domestic matters and political opponents’ claims in the analysis, describing it as an attempt at character assassination.

Jan emphasized that Bushra Bibi’s alleged interference in government affairs was baseless, pointing out that official records of the Federal Cabinet, Economic Coordination Committee, National Security Committee, and parliamentary proceedings refute such claims. He added that no government institution or official had ever raised complaints of interference.

The minister accused the PML-N of fabricating dramas to malign Khan, saying the party had already been rejected by the people. He asserted that Imran Khan remains deeply rooted in public support, while Bushra Bibi continues to face unjust imprisonment alongside targeted character attacks.

Jan announced that the KP government will take the matter to an international forum, stressing that such journalism undermines credibility. He further said Imran Khan is the only leader who has ended hereditary politics in Pakistan, and attempts to discredit him will fail.

It should be noted that The Economist recently published a special report claiming that Bushra Bibi influenced government appointments and daily affairs during Khan’s tenure, with “spiritual consultation” becoming a prominent aspect of decision-making.
