Imaan Mazari Files Application Seeking DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry as Witness in Tweets Case

  • Imaan Mazari files significant court application.
  • Seeks DG ISPR cross-examination on claims.
  • Alleges prejudice in ongoing judicial case.

Advocate Imaan Mazari has filed a crucial application with the Islamabad Session Court, requesting that the court summon Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry as a witness in the ongoing case concerning her controversial tweets. Mazari, a prominent human rights activist, maintains that public comments made by the military spokesman in a press conference were highly biased and have negatively influenced the judicial proceedings against her.

In her application filed with the Session Court, Imaan Mazari argues that the DG ISPR used his official capacity to issue statements that directly impacted her case. Specifically, she points to allegations that he labeled her as a human rights activist for suicide bombers and suggested that her actions were being remotely controlled by entities outside of Pakistan.

Mazari’s petition asserts that as a state official, the military spokesman cannot be permitted to interfere with or prejudice a court case currently under trial.

Terming the DG ISPR’s press conference biased and malicious, the advocate has requested the court to mandate Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry’s appearance as a witness so that he may be cross-examined on the evidence supporting his public accusations.

The application stresses the necessity of cross-examination to bring the alleged ‘proof’ of his claims into the public domain. Mazari warns that if the court fails to conduct a thorough cross-examination regarding these biased statements, the trial will suffer irreversible damage, potentially necessitating the dismissal of the case altogether due to the irreparable harm caused to the accused.

The presiding Judge, Afzal Majoka, reviewed the application and promptly issued notice to the prosecution (استغاثہ) regarding the request to summon the DG ISPR as a witness. The court also instructed that a copy of the application be provided to the prosecuting team.

The original case was registered against Imaan Mazari, her husband Hadi Ali Chattha, and others on August 22, 2025. Filed by a Sub-Inspector of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Authority, the complaint alleges that the accused were targeting state institutions on social media, promoting the narrative of proscribed organizations, and aiming to erode public trust in state bodies to create unrest within the country.
