Pakistan Meteorological Department Debunks Viral Alerts of ‘Unusual’ Cold Wave System

  • Met Office rejects severe cold system alerts.
  • Viral social media claims are unfounded.
  • No unusual weather system approaching Pakistan.

Chief Meteorologist Dr. Zaheer Babar has categorically denied reports circulating widely on social media platforms that suggest an “unusual or worrying cold wave system” is entering Pakistan. According to Dr. Babar, speaking to BBC, the specific claims being shared online about an impending severe and non-routine system are entirely baseless. The clarification comes amidst growing public anxiety fueled by frequently shared warnings regarding extreme temperature drops.

Dr. Babar emphasized that these types of misleading alerts are unfortunately common and tend to go viral on social media every year, often causing unnecessary alarm among the populace. He stressed that the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) monitors all weather phenomena closely, and currently, there is no system approaching the country that could be categorized as non-routine, extraordinary, or a source of major concern. Dr. Babar stated that “Every year, this type of misleading alert is going viral on social media, however, no such system is coming to Pakistan which is worrying or of an unusual nature.”

The Met Office official advised the public to rely exclusively on official PMD forecasts and updates rather than unverified sources. He elaborated that weather patterns follow predictable seasonal cycles, and while cold intensity fluctuates, the system expected is well within the typical scope of Pakistan’s winter climate. The department urged citizens to dismiss the sensational claims of an extraordinary weather event, reaffirming that adequate cold preparation should follow standard seasonal guidelines and official meteorological advisories.
