Opposition, Judges, Civil Society Criticize 27th Constitutional Amendment
Speaking on Geo News, journalist Shehzad Iqbal highlighted the growing debate around the 27th Constitutional Amendment. He explained that the amendment, passed in haste, has drawn criticism not only from opposition parties but also from senior judges, retired judges, civil society groups, and media commentators.
Iqbal pointed out that critics believe the amendment has further complicated the balance of power rather than resolving it. Despite this, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) supported the amendment, reportedly due to the immunity granted to its co-chairman under the new provisions.
His remarks underscore the divided response to the amendment, with legal experts and civil society questioning its implications, while political interests continue to shape its support.
