PM Shahbaz Sharif Leaves for UNGA, to Raise Kashmir, Palestine Issues
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif departed London on Monday for New York to attend the UN General Assembly’s high-level session. According to the Foreign Office, he will call for resolving long-standing disputes in Kashmir and Palestine, and present Pakistan’s stance on climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, and sustainable development.
On the sidelines, PM Shahbaz will join a meeting of select Muslim leaders with US President Donald Trump, and hold talks with world leaders and UN officials. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, already in New York, will accompany him in multiple bilateral and ministerial meetings.
This year’s UNGA, marking the UN’s 80th anniversary, will also host a major conference on the two-state solution for Palestine, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia. Dawn News reported that Pakistan sees the forum as key to advancing peace and justice in global conflicts.
