PTI Rejects 27th Constitutional Amendment, Calls It Suspicious
ISLAMABAD (RPK): The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party has strongly opposed the 27th Constitutional Amendment, describing it as suspicious and unacceptable. The decision was reached during a parliamentary party meeting chaired by Senate Parliamentary Leader Senator Ali Zafar, with participation from Senators Allama Nasir Abbas, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Falak Naz, Dr. Humayun Mehmood, and others.
During the session, PTI finalized its strategy for the upcoming Senate proceedings. The party announced that it will stage protests against the exclusion of cases involving PTI founder Imran Khan and his spouse from being heard in the higher judiciary.
In its official statement, PTI accused the ruling coalition, including the PML-N, PPP, and allied parties, of bypassing constitutional and ethical norms by pushing legislation without consensus. The party argued that the amendment undermines parliamentary principles, sidelines the opposition, and poses a threat to fundamental rights. It also voiced concern over attempts to curtail the independence and authority of the judiciary.
The statement further criticized delays in notifying the Senate opposition leader and demanded immediate issuance of the notification for Senator Allama Nasir Abbas, who was nominated by PTI founder Imran Khan. To strengthen resistance against the amendment, PTI has tasked its members with reaching out to independent senators for support.
Reiterating its stance, PTI declared that the 27th Amendment violates democratic principles and pledged to continue raising objections both inside and outside the Senate until constitutional procedures are properly observed.
