- FIR filed against Qawwal Faraz Khan.
The Walled City Authority (WCLA) has initiated legal proceedings against renowned performer Qawwal Faraz Khan following a major controversy that erupted during the ‘Chandni Raaton’ Musical and Cultural Night held at the historic Shalimar Bagh in Lahore. The event, which was open to the public, was organized under the direct patronage of the WCLA.
Sources indicate that during his performance, Qawwal Faraz Khan presented a song specifically linked to ‘Prisoner 804,’ a reference widely associated with a high-profile detainee at Adiala Jail. This content was deemed inappropriate for a government-sponsored program, leading to swift official action.
An official First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against Qawwal Faraz Khan at Shalimar Police Station by Zamir, the In-charge of Shalimar Bagh, utilizing various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). According to the WCLA spokesman, the Authority itself requested the registration of the case, emphasizing zero tolerance for the content presented.
Responding to the incident, the Walled City Authority took immediate administrative measures. The spokesperson confirmed that three WCLA officials have been summarily suspended due to documented negligence in managing the content of the publicly staged event. The Authority stated that all legal processes will be completed according to the established law.
Meanwhile, Qawwal Faraz Khan offered a defense for his actions, claiming the performance was not premeditated. He stated that he sang the song solely upon receiving persistent demands from the audience, suggesting he was compelled by the requests to deliver the controversial material. Despite his explanation, the case remains active, marking a rare instance where a performer is booked over material presented at an official government function.
