Russia Condemns US Military Threats Against Iran, Labels Proposed Trade Tariffs ‘Blackmail’

  • US military threats deemed absolutely unacceptable.
  • Tariff warnings described as economic blackmail attempts.
  • Action risks catastrophic consequences for global security.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a strong rebuke of the United States’ policy regarding Iran, explicitly warning that threats of new military attacks are “absolutely unacceptable.” According to reporting by BBC Urdu, Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova delivered the stern message, emphasizing that such aggressive posturing risked devastating consequences for the Middle East and threatened international security.

Zakharova specifically cautioned the US against using ongoing internal unrest in Iran as a pretext for renewed military intervention. She drew a parallel to past actions, warning against repeating events similar to the US Air Force’s targeting of three Iranian nuclear installations last June. The spokesperson stressed that any military move based on artificially inflamed protests would have global repercussions.

Beyond the security warnings, Russia also strongly condemned the economic pressure being applied by the administration of President Donald Trump. Following President Trump’s announcement that the US would impose a 25% tariff on US imports from countries maintaining trade partnerships with Iran, Zakharova labeled this strategy as “blackmailing.” She stated, “We also strictly reject attempts to blackmail Iran’s foreign partners by increasing trade tariffs.”

Moscow maintains that these dual approaches military threats coupled with economic coercion are destabilizing the region. Zakharova indicated that the protests opposing the government within Iran, which she described as “artificially inflamed,” appear to be subsiding, expressing hope that the situation would “gradually stabilize.” Russia’s robust statement underscores the deepening geopolitical rift between Moscow and Washington concerning the highly sensitive Iranian file.
