Riyadh to Doha High Speed Train Project Announced

Strategic Partnership

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, witnessed the signing of a landmark agreement to build a highspeed electric passenger railway connecting Riyadh and Doha. The step reflects the deep fraternal and historical ties between the two nations.

Agreement Details

The accord was signed within the framework of the SaudiQatari Coordination Council by Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh AlJasser and Qatar’s Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani. It represents a strategic move to enhance cooperation, integration, and sustainable development, underscoring a shared commitment to regional prosperity.

Railway Specifications

The line will span 785 kilometers, linking the capitals Riyadh and Doha through key stations including Hofuf and Dammam, while also connecting King Salman International Airport and Hamad International Airport. Trains will exceed 300 km/h, cutting travel time between the two capitals to about two hours.

Economic and Social Impact

The project, slated for completion in six years, is expected to contribute nearly SAR115 billion to the GDP of both countries, serve more than 10 million passengers annually, and create over 30,000 direct and indirect jobs. It will boost trade, tourism, and quality of life across the region.

Sustainability Goals

Designed with advanced railway technologies and smart engineering, the project will adhere to the highest international standards of safety and quality. It will also reduce carbon emissions, supporting the transition to efficient and sustainable mobility.

Regional Integration

The highspeed railway is considered one of the most important strategic projects for the Gulf Cooperation Council, strengthening connectivity, integration, and regional development.
