Shehbaz Hails MBS as Defence Ties Deepen
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have signed a significant “Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement,” marking a new chapter in their long-standing relationship. Under the new pact, an act of external aggression against one country will be considered an attack on both, demanding a collective response.
The agreement was signed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Riyadh, where he met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
In a message shared on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Sharif expressed his deep gratitude for the warm reception in Riyadh. “I am immensely grateful to my dear brother, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for the enthusiastic welcome during my official visit,” he stated. Sharif described the visit and the discussions as crucial for both nations.
“Our meeting covered a wide range of issues, including regional challenges and opportunities to enhance our bilateral cooperation,” the Prime Minister added. He praised the Crown Prince’s consistent support and his keen interest in boosting Saudi investment, trade, and business ties with Pakistan.
The landmark defence deal has drawn a watchful response from neighboring India. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, acknowledged that they were aware of the developing relationship and the discussions leading up to this agreement. He stated that India is reviewing the pact and its potential implications.
