Shehbaz Sharif Lands in Tianjin for High-Stakes SCO Summit and Strategic China Visit
Tianjin, China (Republicpk.com) — Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif touched down in Tianjin on Saturday, marking the start of a pivotal diplomatic tour across China. According to PTV, the Prime Minister was welcomed at Tianjin Binhai International Airport by senior Chinese officials, including Sun Meijun, Secretary of the CPC Customs Committee, and Yu Yunlin, Chairman of the Tianjin Municipal People’s Congress. Also present were Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zedong and Pakistan’s envoy to Beijing, Khalil Hashmi.
The visit centers around the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit, scheduled from August 31 to September 1, 2025. Prime Minister Sharif is expected to address the summit, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional cooperation, economic integration, and multilateral diplomacy.
Accompanying the Prime Minister is a high-level delegation comprising Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Dr. Ahsan Iqbal, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, along with senior government officials.
Beyond the summit, the Prime Minister will participate in commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War victory in Beijing, underscoring historical solidarity between the two nations. He is also slated to hold bilateral meetings with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, with discussions expected to span trade, infrastructure, and strategic partnerships.
A major highlight of the visit will be the second Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference, chaired by Prime Minister Sharif in Beijing on September 4. The event aims to unlock new avenues for bilateral trade and attract Chinese investment in Pakistan’s priority sectors, from energy and logistics to digital innovation.
In addition to engaging with Chinese business leaders, the Prime Minister will meet heads of state from other SCO member countries, positioning Pakistan as a proactive voice in regional diplomacy.
The visit comes at a time of shifting geopolitical dynamics, and Pakistan’s active participation in the SCO reflects its strategic pivot toward deeper regional integration and economic resilience.
