Sri Lanka squad told no early return, Pakistan tour remains intact
The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has directed its national team to complete the scheduled tour of Pakistan, despite concerns raised by several players regarding security conditions.
In an official statement, the board confirmed that it is working closely with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to address all safety issues. Officials stressed that the protection of players and staff is paramount, and any individual choosing to return home prematurely will face disciplinary action. Replacement players would be sent if necessary.
The Sri Lankan squad, currently in Pakistan for a one-day series and a tri-nation T20 competition, had earlier requested permission to cut the tour short. However, following a detailed meeting between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the Sri Lankan players, the team agreed to continue.
Sources revealed that the 90-minute discussion helped ease the players’ concerns, with Naqvi assuring them that he would personally oversee security arrangements. He also extended an invitation to the families of Sri Lankan players to visit Pakistan and attend the matches, reinforcing the PCB’s commitment to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
The decision marks a significant step in maintaining international cricket ties, as both boards work together to balance competitive commitments with the highest standards of safety.
