- Federal government warns of action against illegal blockades.
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has shared details of the medical report concerning Imran Khan’s eyesight. Speaking at the Sheikhupura Bar Association, Tarar confirmed he consulted with the Attorney General. According to Tarar, officials reported that Khan’s vision is largely stable. Azam Nazeer Tarar stated:“One eye is perfectly fine, while the other is approximately 70 percent functional with glasses.” He emphasized that there is no immediate cause for concern regarding the PTI chairman’s health.
Constitutional Movement Rights
The Law Minister addressed the ongoing protests and the resulting blockades on major travel routes. He cited Article 15 of the Constitution, which guarantees the freedom of movement for all citizens across the country. Tarar expressed disappointment that state machinery is reportedly being used to restrict these basic rights. He noted that it is unprecedented to see a government taking official measures to infringe upon the public’s movement.
Provincial Road Closures
Tarar criticized the closure of motorways and the GT Road, labeling these actions as unconstitutional. He pointed out that the provincial government’s decision to block major arteries disrupts the lives of ordinary citizens. The minister suggested that the PTI leadership should reconsider their protest strategy once they review the medical report. Azam Nazeer Tarar said:“Blocking motorways and the GT Road at a state level is an unconstitutional act.”
Federal Action Warning
The Law Minister issued a clear warning regarding the restoration of law and order. He stated that if the provincial government fails to uphold the constitution, the federation has the authority to intervene. Tarar remarked that the Constitution provides specific methods to rectify such violations. He warned:“If the provincial government does not follow the law, the remedy exists within the Constitution.” He urged the opposition to clear the paths to avoid federal intervention.
