Trump Meets Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir at White House
WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House on Thursday.
Prime Minister Sharif travelled from New York to Washington for the meeting, which was held in the Oval Office. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also attended the talks.
This marked the second meeting between Trump and Sharif in a week. Earlier, the two leaders had met on the sidelines of a gathering of Islamic countries’ leaders regarding the Gaza crisis.
It is worth noting that in June this year, President Trump hosted Field Marshal Asim Munir for a luncheon, though Prime Minister Sharif was not present at that event.
Ahead of Thursday’s meeting, Trump told reporters at a press conference that he was about to meet “two great leaders.” He described both the Pakistani Prime Minister and the Field Marshal as “remarkable personalities.”
Trump added, “I’m running a little late — they have already arrived at the beautiful Oval Office, and I’ll be meeting them shortly.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is currently in the United States to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Friday.
