Pakistan Rejects Jaishankar’s Remarks on Army and Leadership

Background of the Remarks

Speaking at a conference over the weekend, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar claimed that Pakistan’s current situation reflects “80 years of its history.” He alleged that the military has consistently dominated governance in Pakistan, sometimes overtly and sometimes from behind the scenes. Jaishankar further accused Pakistan’s armed forces of fostering terrorism, running training camps, and sustaining ideological hostility against India. He argued that India should avoid unnecessary focus on Pakistan, stressing the difference in “capabilities and credibility” between the two countries.

Pakistan’s Response

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andarabi firmly rejected these assertions, stating that Pakistan is a responsible state whose institutions, including the armed forces, are pillars of national security. He emphasized that the military remains committed to safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Andarabi pointed to the May 2025 conflict, saying it had already demonstrated the professional capability and resolve of Pakistan’s forces in defending the homeland. “No propaganda campaign can deny this reality,” he added.

Propaganda Allegations

The spokesperson accused Indian leadership of running a systematic propaganda drive aimed at maligning Pakistan’s institutions and leadership. He argued that such rhetoric is designed to divert attention from India’s destabilizing actions in the region and its alleged statesponsored terrorism inside Pakistan.

Call for Introspection in India

Andarabi urged India to examine the rise of Hindutva ideology, which he said has led to extrajudicial killings, mob violence, arbitrary arrests, and the demolition of places of worship. He warned that Indian state and leadership have become “hostage to extremism in the name of religion.”

Pakistan’s Position

Reaffirming Islamabad’s stance, the spokesperson said Pakistan believes in coexistence, dialogue, and diplomacy. However, he stressed that the country remains united and determined to protect its interests and sovereignty against any external attempts to undermine them.
