Reported by — In the flood-ravaged tehsil of Liaquatpur, Rahim Yar Khan district, two separate boat tragedies have intensified the humanitarian crisis, claiming lives and leaving families in anguish.
According to BBC Urdu, one of the boats that capsized in Noorwala was carrying 28 flood victims. Thirteen passengers were rescued, but two women drowned, and 13 others remain missing as rescue teams continue their search.
In a separate incident in Tibi Jhullan’s Tohidabad area, another boat overturned, sweeping away three children in the violent floodwaters. Their fate remains unknown.
Local journalist Irfan Jhullan described the situation as “devastating and uncontrollable,” with families pleading for essentials like milk and clean water. “People are desperate,” he said. “The administration is overwhelmed.”
The crisis worsened when the Zamindara Dam at Bhait Bhattar collapsed under pressure from the Chenab River’s flood relay. The breach submerged 35 villages, destroying homes, crops, and infrastructure. Officials estimate over 13,000 residents are trapped, many stranded without access to food or shelter.
Rescue and relief operations are underway, led by the army and emergency services. So far, 1,861 people have been relocated to safer areas with essential supplies. But with water levels rising and access routes cut off, the race against time continues.
