UNGA 2025: PM Shahbaz Backs Gaza Ceasefire at Arab-Islamic Summit

New York: During the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, an Arab-Islamic Summit on the Palestine crisis was convened in New York, co-hosted by the United States and Qatar. According to PTV News, the summit brought together key global leaders including US President Donald Trump, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

President Trump emphasized the urgency of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, stating that lasting peace in the Middle East requires an immediate end to hostilities. The Emir of Qatar echoed this sentiment, expressing concern over the humanitarian crisis and calling for swift international action.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif actively participated in the summit, advocating for unity among Islamic nations and a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Prior to the formal proceedings, he held informal discussions with fellow leaders including the Emir of Qatar, King Abdullah II, and President Prabowo Subianto, focusing on regional stability and humanitarian support.

As reported by PTV News, a cordial exchange took place between Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and President Trump following the summit. The two leaders warmly shook hands and briefly discussed matters of mutual interest. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar was also present during the interaction.

The summit concluded with a collective commitment from participating nations to work together toward ending the violence in Gaza and supporting the Palestinian people through diplomatic and humanitarian efforts.
