Credit for PPP-PML-N Truce Goes to Imran Khan, Says Hamid Mir

Senior journalist Hamid Mir has stated that the credit for the recent “ceasefire” between rival political parties, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), should go to Imran Khan. However, he predicted the truce will not last long due to the prime ministerial ambitions of Maryam Nawaz and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Speaking on the Geo News program ‘Aaj Shahzaib Khanzada Kay Sath,’ Mir explained his reasoning. He noted that just as disagreements between the PPP and PML-N were intensifying, Imran Khan announced Sohail Afridi as his nominee for Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Just a few hours after his announcement, a ceasefire happened between these two parties,” Mir said. “That is why I give the credit to Imran Khan.”

When host Shahzaib Khanzada asked if this ceasefire would last, Hamid Mir replied that it would not be a long-term arrangement.

According to Mir, the reason for the inevitable friction is not among the senior leadership. “Whether it’s Ishaq Dar or Ayaz Sadiq, and even Shehbaz Sharif, they have good relations with each other,” he stated. “But the relationship between Maryam Nawaz and Bilawal Bhutto is not good.”

“And the reason this relationship is not good,” Mir concluded, “is that both of them want to become Prime Minister.”
