Iron Man Will Return, Says PTI Chairman in Parliament Address

ISLAMABAD – In a fiery address to the National Assembly, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali sharply criticized the government’s latest constitutional amendment, which he mockingly labeled the “Baku Amendment.” He argued that instead of strengthening democratic institutions, the move has weakened the judiciary and eroded public trust.

Calling the day “a mourning for democracy,” Gohar Ali said the amendment represents a step toward burying democratic values. “This is not a celebration, it is a burial,” he declared, adding that democracy will remain only in name if such changes continue unchecked.

He linked the measure to the unfinished agenda of the 26th Amendment, suggesting that the ruling coalition has prioritized its own interests over national welfare. According to him, the amendment was passed while key officials were abroad, further fueling perceptions of dishonesty and irresponsibility in governance.

The PTI chief accused the current administration, which he described as “PDM-2,” of using its power to close personal cases and escape accountability. “After coming to power, they relieved themselves of responsibility through amendments that protect their own interests,” he alleged.

Gohar Ali also issued a symbolic warning, saying that the “iron man” currently imprisoned would eventually return, and only then would the true test of political strength be revealed. “Greetings to your fear,” he repeated, emphasizing that the government’s actions are driven by insecurity rather than democratic principles.

His remarks have sparked debate across political circles, with critics questioning whether the amendment truly serves the people or merely shields the powerful. Supporters of PTI have echoed his concerns, framing the development as a betrayal of constitutional responsibility.
