Kot Radhakishan Christian couple burning case, 3 accused sentenced to death acquitted

Islamabad (Republic Pk) There has been an important development in the case of burning a Christian couple in a brick kiln in Kot Radhakishan and the Supreme Court has acquitted all three accused sentenced to death, while also rejecting the Punjab government’s plea against the acquittal of 102 accused.

The Supreme Court has ordered the acquittal of the three accused sentenced to death, Irfan, Mehdi and Riaz, in the case of burning a Christian couple, Shahzad Masih and his pregnant wife, Shama Bibi, alive in a brick kiln in Kot Radhakishan.

The tragic incident took place on November 4, 2014, when an angry mob on charges of blasphemy tortured Shahzad Masih and his pregnant wife, Shama Bibi, and later burned them alive in a brick kiln.

After the incident, the police registered a case against hundreds of people. The anti-terrorism court sentenced five accused to death in the case, while the other accused were given various sentences.

Later, the Lahore High Court acquitted two of the five accused, while the death sentence of three accused was upheld. However, now a three-member bench headed by Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed has issued an order to acquit all three accused after hearing the appeals.
