Indian Woman Dies Accidentally While Filming Social Media Reel

  • A 27-year-old woman died while filming a social media video in Uttar Pradesh.
  • The accident occurred after the victim lost her balance while using a saree as a prop.
  • Police discovered the victim had searched for similar dangerous videos online before the incident.
A heartbreaking incident took place in the Baberu Town area of Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday. According to details shared by the Times of India, a 27-year-old woman named Mohini lost her life in a tragic accident while attempting to create a video for social media. The incident has left the local community in shock and raised serious concerns about the safety of online content creation. Mohini was reportedly trying to perform a scene for her social media followers when the situation turned fatal within her own home.

Details of the Fatal Accident

According to police reports, Mohini decided to use a saree to act out a hanging scene. She tied the saree to a ceiling fan and wrapped the other end around her neck like a noose. To reach the height of the fan, she stood on a stool. At the time of the incident, her four-year-old daughter was also present in the room and was watching her mother. Unfortunately, while Mohini was adjusting the saree, she lost her balance and the stool slipped from under her feet. This caused the saree to tighten around her neck, leading to accidental strangulation.

The Police Investigation

Circle Officer Saurabh Singh provided details regarding the investigation. He stated that the woman lost her balance, which resulted in her neck becoming trapped in the saree. The police have taken the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death. During the initial probe, police examined Mohini’s mobile phone records. The records revealed that she had recently searched for several videos on Google and Facebook showing people hanging from the ceiling. This suggests she was trying to imitate what she had seen online for her own video content.

Eyewitness Accounts

The victim’s four-year-old daughter told the police that her mother was recording a video when the accident occurred. Her husband, Jagdish, also confirmed the situation to the authorities. He explained that his wife had used her saree as a prop for the video. When Mohini fell and began to struggle, her young daughter started crying loudly. Neighbors heard the child’s screams and rushed to the house. They found Mohini hanging from the ceiling and quickly brought her down. She was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Previous Similar Incidents

This is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred in India due to social media stunts. In October last year, a similar incident took place in the Shanti Nagar area of Delhi. A 14-year-old boy lost his life while recording a reel that involved a ceiling fan. That incident caused severe psychological trauma to his family, who had to seek professional counseling to cope with the loss. These cases highlight a dangerous trend where individuals, especially young people, risk their lives for digital engagement and viral fame.

Official Warnings to Parents

Authorities have repeatedly issued guidelines to the public, particularly to parents, urging them to monitor their children’s activities. They have advised against performing dangerous stunts for reels and TikTok videos. Similar accidents have been reported globally, where individuals have suffered serious injuries or death while filming viral challenges. Experts suggest that the pressure to gain followers and likes often clouds the judgment of content creators, leading them to ignore basic safety precautions. The police have classified this current case as an accident, but they are continuing their investigation to rule out any other possibilities.
