Some ‘Powerful People’ want my conviction, Says Imaan Mazari

Lawyer and human rights activist Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir has made headlines after appearing before a trial court in a case filed against her and her husband by the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

According to a report from journalist Asad Ali Toor on the social media platform X, during the court proceedings, Mazari-Hazir told Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah that powerful individuals were seeking her conviction. She alleged that they had hired a three-member prosecution team, paying them millions from the national exchequer, and that this team was receiving instructions from a “very big office.”

The case, which also involves her husband, Hadi Ali Chatha, stems from a controversial tweet. A challan has been submitted to the court, and summons have been issued for both of the accused. The court has directed that copies of the challan be provided to them at the next hearing, scheduled for September 17.

In a separate development, Mazari-Hazir announced on her own X account on September 15 that she had filed a complaint against the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Mr. Sarfraz Dogar.

The complaint was submitted to the Islamabad High Court’s workplace harassment committee, and she also filed a reference against him for misconduct before the Supreme Judicial Council.
