Plan to Create New Provinces is Being Formally Discussed, Claims Habib Akram

ISLAMABAD – Analyst Habib Akram has claimed that a formal discussion is underway “in an office” to finalize a plan for increasing the number of provinces in Pakistan.

Speaking in a digital program on the YouTube channel Mustaqbil, Akram stated that the deliberations are not just theoretical but include specific details. “Right now, the number of provinces is being formally considered in an office,” he said. “The talks also include how many assembly members will be in each province.”

Akram alleged that the blueprint for this restructuring closely mirrors a proposal publicly championed by Mian Amer Mahmood, the owner of Dunya Media Group. “Coincidentally, all the discussion so far is exactly what Mian Amer sahib has written in his booklet,” he remarked.

Mian Amer has been a vocal advocate for creating smaller administrative units, suggesting at various forums that every administrative division in Pakistan should be converted into a province to improve governance.

Furthermore, Akram claimed that the plan involves a significant constitutional shift that would empower the federal government. “The discussion is that the federation will be completely independent to declare any area a province whenever it wants,” he said.

The analyst’s claims come amidst a renewed and intense national debate on the creation of new provinces, with various proposals being discussed in political and media circles to enhance administrative efficiency and devolve power.
