Malala Says ‘Silence is Not an Option’

London: Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has said that her top priority is to call for a ceasefire in Gaza, amplify Palestinian voices, and support local organizations helping refugees in Gaza and other regions.

In an interview with BBC Africa’s Medina Maishanu, Malala emphasized that “whatever we are doing is not enough, but that doesn’t mean we should stop.” She discussed the Malala Fund’s work in Nigeria to promote education and end child marriage, as well as her upcoming book Finding My Way, which explores identity, mental health, and the pressures of fame.

Malala said she has no regrets about her activism, as it has brought positive change to the lives of girls worldwide. She revealed that the Malala Fund has given over one million dollars in grants to local groups providing education and mental health support to Palestinian children.

Addressing criticism over her association with international figures who support Israel, she clarified that her stance is clear—she stands with victims of violence and oppression, including Palestinians.

Regarding social media criticism about her involvement in a musical project linked to Hillary Clinton, Malala said such claims were based on false assumptions, emphasizing that her intention was only to support women’s empowerment.

Reiterating her message on Gaza, she said: “We must unite to pressure Israel to stop this genocide.” She added that world leaders must act now, not just issue statements, and that her mission remains to secure a safe, educated future for all children, especially those suffering due to wars and displacement.
