PTI Senator Khurram Zeeshan Links Attack to Political Hostility

Incident Details

Late at night in Peshawar, unidentified armed men opened fire at the residence of Pakistan TehreekeInsaf Senator Khurram Zeeshan Advocate, leaving one person injured. Police said the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when four to five vehicles carrying armed individuals attempted to enter the property and began firing. The intense gunfire shattered windowpanes and damaged the house.

Senator Not Present at the Time

Authorities confirmed that Senator Khurram Zeeshan was not at home during the attack. Police officer Farhan Khan told BBC that the identity of the attackers remains unknown, but a case has been registered and investigations are underway.

Statements from Khurram Zeeshan

Speaking to BBC, Senator Zeeshan explained that the targeted house belongs to his fatherinlaw, where he also resides. He said the FIR was lodged by his cousin, adding that nearly 20 to 25 men arrived in five vehicles and opened fire. One of his employees was struck in the back and seriously injured.

Background

Police noted that Zeeshan lives in Phase 2 of Hayatabad, a major residential area of Peshawar. He was elected to the Senate in October 2025 after Shibli Faraz was disqualified by court order. Recently, Zeeshan has been vocal on social media, drawing sharp criticism from Senator Faisal Vawda during a TV program, which Zeeshan later responded to online.

Professionally, Zeeshan is a lawyer and has long been associated with PTI. He has represented party members in cases related to the May 9–10 events. Earlier in his career, he served as a civil judge in 2003–04 before moving abroad, later returning to Pakistan to join politics.

Political Reaction

The attack took place in Peshawar, the provincial capital where PTI holds government. Attempts to contact provincial government spokesperson Shafi Jan went unanswered. However, PTI’s provincial president Junaid Akbar wrote on X that the armed assault on Senator Zeeshan’s home was a “cowardly act,” adding: “When truthspeakers are targeted at their homes, it means oppressors are trembling.”
