Heavy Police Deployment
In Rawalpindi, police erected barricades and deployed heavy contingents at the Gorakhpur checkpoint leading to Adiala Jail, stopping family members and PTI supporters from proceeding further. The confrontation quickly escalated as PTI workers chanted slogans against the restrictions, creating a tense standoff between protesters and law enforcement.
Aleema Khan’s Defiant Address
Speaking to supporters at the checkpoint, Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, delivered a fiery speech. She declared:
“I have arrived despite all barriers. Arrest me if you wish. When we act legally, restrictions are imposed, yet illegal actions continue unchecked. We are not even allowed to bring doctors into Adiala Jail.”
Aleema Khan criticized the medical treatment arrangements for her brother, alleging that only government‑appointed doctors are permitted to examine him and issue selective reports. She added:
“Everyone knows Nawaz Sharif was allowed to keep his personal doctor in Adiala Jail at all times. Why is Imran Khan being denied the same right?”
Threat of Sit‑In
Aleema Khan warned that if family members are not permitted to meet Imran Khan, the protest will not disperse. She vowed that PTI supporters and family members would continue their demonstration at the site and could escalate it into a full sit‑in outside Adiala Jail.
Background on Imran Khan’s Detention
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan remains imprisoned in Adiala Jail, where restrictions on meetings have repeatedly triggered protests by family members and PTI workers. PTI maintains that Khan is being denied basic rights and facilities, including access to personal medical care and family visits. The government, however, insists that all provisions are being provided strictly in accordance with the law.
This latest protest adds to a series of demonstrations highlighting the growing tension between PTI supporters and state authorities over Khan’s imprisonment. The confrontation underscores both the political sensitivity of his detention and the determination of his family to challenge restrictions they consider unjust.
