Islamabad
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament House, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan warned that attempts to sideline Imran Khan through a “minus formula” would destabilize the political system. He said that removing one leader would not leave others intact, stressing that “if one is minus, then none will remain.”
Condemnation of Water Cannon Use
Barrister Gohar strongly criticized the use of water cannons on Khan’s sisters during their protest at Adiala Jail. He said the incident reflected an alarming misuse of force, adding “Enough is enough.” He questioned why family members seeking a routine meeting were treated as a threat, asking what harm would have been caused if they had remained seated for two hours.
Restrictions on Family Visits
He accused authorities of blocking Khan’s family meetings on flimsy grounds, such as citing Khan’s social media activity. “Is Bushra Bibi’s family holding press conferences? Why are their meetings not being allowed?” he asked, calling the restrictions unjustified.
Warning of Uncontrolled Consequences
Barrister Gohar said PTI’s participation in the political system was aimed at safeguarding democracy and representing the party’s millions of supporters. He cautioned that continued suppression would lead to developments beyond anyone’s control.
Federation and Assembly Resolution
Referring to a resolution passed in a provincial assembly, he said the government was creating divisions among federation units. He questioned whether PTI was being banned, noting that even its certificate had not been accepted. He warned that if the current situation persisted, “within a month the conditions will not be in your control.”
