Pak-Afghan Border Tensions Flare as Chaman Ceasefire Violated

Islamabad: Fresh tensions emerged along the Pak-Afghan border on Thursday when firing erupted from the Afghan side near Chaman, in what officials described as an unprovoked violation of the ceasefire.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Information, Afghan elements targeted security posts without provocation. Pakistani forces, the ministry said, responded swiftly and responsibly, ensuring the situation was brought under control without further escalation.

“The firing was initiated from across the border, and our security forces acted promptly, effectively, and in a measured manner,” the ministry’s statement read. It added that the ceasefire agreement remains intact despite the incident.

Islamabad strongly rejected claims circulating from the Afghan side regarding the clash, stressing that Pakistan remains committed to border discipline and regional stability. Officials emphasized that safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and protecting citizens will remain a top priority.

The ministry further underlined Pakistan’s commitment to ongoing dialogue with Kabul, noting that constructive cooperation from Afghan authorities is expected to prevent such incidents in the future.

The border skirmish coincided with the third round of talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban government, currently taking place in Istanbul, where both sides are discussing security and bilateral cooperation.
