The process of enforcing the 27th Constitutional Amendment has formally begun, with Pakistan’s judiciary announcing significant appointments to key institutions.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court Ameenuddin Khan jointly nominated Justice Jamal Mandokhail as a member of the Supreme Judicial Council, the body responsible for accountability of senior judges. In addition, Justice Aamer Farooq has been named as a member of the Judicial Commission, which oversees appointments within the judiciary.
Justice Jamal Mandokhail has also been included in the Supreme Court Judges Committee, which will supervise case hearings. The committee will consist of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, and Justice Jamal Mandokhail.
Senior journalist Abdul Qayyum Siddiqui reported that these nominations mark the first practical steps toward implementing the 27th Amendment, reflecting a broader effort to strengthen judicial accountability and transparency.
Observers note that the appointments are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the judiciary’s future, ensuring both oversight and merit‑based selection in Pakistan’s courts.
