Pakistan Condemns Killing of Chinese Workers in Tajikistan

Islamabad’s Statement of Solidarity

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned the killing of three Chinese nationals in Tajikistan, describing the incident as a “heinous terrorist attack.” In a statement issued on Friday, the Foreign Office expressed deep condolences to the governments and people of China and Tajikistan, pledging solidarity in the face of tragedy.

Drone Attack Raises Regional Concerns

According to the statement, armed drones were used in the assault near Tajikistan’s border with Afghanistan, highlighting what officials called the “gravity of threat emanating from Afghan soil.” Pakistan noted that it has repeatedly suffered similar crossborder attacks and therefore fully understands the grief of its Chinese and Tajik partners.

Call for Action Against Terrorist Networks

The Foreign Office stressed that Afghan territory must not be allowed to serve as a base for terrorism against its neighbours or any other country. It urged “concrete and verifiable action” against perpetrators, facilitators, and financiers of groups operating from Afghanistan, warning that their continued presence under the Taliban regime is a matter of serious concern for the region and the wider international community.

Tajikistan’s Claim

Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry has alleged that the attack was carried out from Afghan territory, targeting employees of a Chinese company in the border province of Khatlon. Officials said the drone was equipped with grenades and other weapons. While Afghanistan has yet to issue a response, Tajik authorities stated they are working to maintain stability in border areas despite what they described as “destructive actions of criminal groups.”

Pakistan’s Regional Commitment

Pakistan reaffirmed its intention to work closely with China, Tajikistan, and other regional partners to promote peace and security. “As a neighbour that has repeatedly suffered terrorist attacks orchestrated from Afghan soil, Pakistan shares the grief and anguish of our Chinese friends and Tajik partners,” the statement read.
