Punjab owes Rs 1,691 billion, documents revealed

Lahore (Republic PK) New documents related to the debt of domestic and foreign institutions on the province of Punjab in Pakistan have surfaced, according to which the province owes Rs 1,691 billion to domestic and foreign institutions, but there has been a decrease of about Rs 66 billion by March compared to last June.

A private TV channel has reported with reference to the documents that the volume of debts in June 2025 was Rs 1,757 billion, which has decreased to Rs 1,691 billion, with a decrease of Rs 13.2 billion in debts between December and March.

42 percent of Punjab’s debts were taken from international development institutions, 20 percent from the Asian Development Bank and 18 percent from China.

On the other hand, the Punjab Finance Department has expressed its expectation that there will be a further reduction in debts by the end of the current fiscal year.
